New scores

I know the semester is ending and many of you will not be around much longer, but I wanted to share a few of the treasures we just received from our contemporary scores plan. Among many others, there are new works by Eric Ewazen for trombone and piano and for three trumpets and piano; a vocal score to an opera by, of all people, Elliott Carter; a piece (Isabelle Dances) for solo marimba by Steven Stucky; half a dozen scores by Arvo Part; and a piece by Philip Glass for organ, didgeridoo, and narrator.

These just came in and they aren't available for circulation yet but if you really can't wait to peruse one, let me know.

Indexes to H Leonard anthologies

I just found this collection of indexes to Hal Leonard vocal anthologies ( It includes indexes by song titles, and in some cases show titles, to the Singer's Musical Theater Anthologies, opera anthologies, and others. These don't replace more general indexes, but they may prove to be a handy reference.

I just came across Mozart's Words, a stunning collection of Mozart's letters (and those of his family). The initial iteration contains 114 letters from 1769 to 1773, specifically from Leopold and Wolfgang's trips to Italy. The letters are presented as facsimiles of the originals; in 18th century and modern German; and in English, Italian, and French translations. The letters can be browsed by date, people, places, and works mentioned. The interface seems remarkably good. Their goal is to eventually make all 1,400 of the Mozart family letters available. See
