A curious little book

While weeding the book collection, I came across Sigmund Spaeth's Great Symphonies: How to Recognize and Remember Them (1952 ed.). Spaeth's solution to the problem of remembering themes is to provide "lyrics" for each. So for the main theme of the finale of Beethoven's Sixth, you can in future hear "Hither, come hither, and join our hymn of praise; the shepherds in gladness their thankful voices raise". Or you can run away screaming. There are hundreds of such examples. I decided to keep this book as a "priceless" artifact of another era's approach to music appreciation. You can find it at MT125.S74 1952.
